Call for a Junior Expert Consultant on Volunteer Bridge

 

The European Youth Forum (YFJ) is an independent,  democratic,  youth-led platform, representing 98 National Youth Councils and International Youth Organisations from across
Europe. The Youth Forum works to empower young people to participate actively in society to improve their own lives, by representing and advocating their needs and interests and those of their organisations towards the European Institutions, the Council of Europe and the United Nations.

Working context

The II Youth Convention on Volunteering
In the framework of 2011 being the European Year of Volunteering, the International Year of Volunteers + 10 (IYV+10) and the EU-China Year of Youth, the European Youth Forum is planning to implement a wide-ranging event on youth volunteering in 2011, in order to showcase the contribution of participatory youth organisations to the volunteering sector and society as a whole and to celebrate young volunteers from all over Europe.

To bring all this activities together and to place the work of volunteers in Europe in the spotlight, the European Youth Forum is organising the biggest civil society event in Europe during the European Year: The II Youth Convention on Volunteering (II YCV).

The II YCV will take place between the 7-11th September in Brussels (Belgium) and will showcase the contribution of participatory youth organisations to the volunteering sector and
society as a whole, and celebrate young volunteers from all over Europe. It will bring together volunteers, institutions, volunteer organisations, researchers and decision makers from all over Europe. It will consists of 5 days of conferences, seminars, workshops, concerts, art performances, exhibition, all focused on the main theme: " volunteering".

The Volunteer Bridge

In the framework of 2011 being the EU- China Year of Youth and the European Year of Volunteering,  the European Youth Forum (YFJ) aims to organise a EU-China Policy Dialogue on
Volunteering, in order to showcase the contribution of participatory youth organisations to the volunteering sector and society as a whole, and to celebrate young volunteers both in EU and in China. The EU-China Policy Dialogue on Volunteering foresees the participation of 100 Chinese Volunteers and experts and 200 European volunteers. The programme will run from the 4th till the 11th September 2011.

This dialogue, named Volunteer Bridge,  will be a series of events and activities (taking place in the framework of the II YCV), which together aim to provide an experience of volunteering and foster discussions on all facets of youth volunteering in the EU and China, with the aim of arriving at common recommendations on Volunteering policies in the EU and in China. The Volunteer Bridge will be composed of several interlinked activities (III China Europe Symposium on Youth Work Development, EU- China art dialogue: grafti art workshop, EU-China music dialogue: Ethno Music workshop, Experience the reality of Chinese Youth and volunteers: Volunteering Village workshops).

In particular, the activity " Exploring Youth Culture & reality and Volunteer for a Day" is foreseen: between the 5th and the 7th September, Chinese Volunteers will have the opportunity to have a cultural introduction to Brussels, to experience the European reality of volunteering through the activity "volunteer for a day" and to explore youth culture and the reality of young people in Belgium, by visiting local youth projects.

The YFJ is recruiting a Volunteer Bridge Consultant that is expected to provide the following deliverables:

DELIVERABLES:

- Deal with communication with the Chinese counterpart regarding the 100 ChineseVolunteers;
- Deal with logistics related to  accommodation, meals, insurance, local travels;
- Deal with logistics and coordination related to the activities foreseen for the Chinese Volunteers (cultural introduction, volunteering for a day, exploring youth culture and volunteering activities in and around Belgium);
- Make sure that the event complies with all legal and security provisions according to Belgian Legislation;
- Provide a detailed budget of the Volunteer Bridge and report on the expenses incurred;
- Take care of the payment of bills relating to the expenses incurred for the Volunteering Bridge;


PROFILE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Dynamic, autonomous and proactive;
- Organised and precise;
- Already  Brussels-based or in surroundings ;
- Linguistic skills: excellent knowledge of Flemish and/or French, excellent knowledge of written and spoken English, knowledge of Chinese is an asset;
- Relevant education: a university degree in events management is strongly desirable but can be compensated by extensive relevant organisation of event experience;
- Experience of logistic and organisation of events in the NGO sector;
- Min. 5 years of relevant experience in youth participation and volunteering issues from practice or academic point of view;
- Capacity to multi-task , demonstrating excellent time management, work prioritisation and organisational skills;
- Flexibility and capacity to work in a multicultural environment, as well as having a particular sensibility on multicultural issues;
- Ability to work independently as well as within the team of the organisation of the II YCV;
- Knowledge on how to do a financial report;
- Computer literacy, with good working knowledge of word processing, e-mail and internet applications. OpenOfce knowledge is appreciated.

TERMS OF THE CONTRACT

The  successful candidate is expected to start in mid-May and end in mid-October.

The candidate is expected to provide deliverables, and he/she will manage his/her working time according with established deadlines.

The consultancy fee  is  4440 € (VAT included).
