The Red Cross core activity areas are emergency response, disaster preparedness, civil protection, asylum, migration and displacement, restoring family links, health and care, social inclusion, road safety, first aid services and training, youth work, work with elderly, accompanying and visitor services, social inclusion, labour market re-integration, promotion of international humanitarian law, blood donations, ambulance services, water rescue, health services, food aid/soup kitchens/social shops, residential and long-term care, health education incl. programmes on HIV/AIDS and TB, programmes to combat human trafficking and violence, services for people with disabilities, prisoners, women threatened by domestic violence.
The provision of services is strictly needs based, responding to the specific demands of vulnerable groups in a local community. Volunteers and voluntary work are thereby at the heart of all service provision. Red Cross volunteers are recruited in all age groups and from within the local community. They are well trained, highly professional and truly committed citizens, eager to help improving community infrastructure and living conditions.
