The Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA) is a non-governmental organisation committed to the promotion of good governance, citizen participation and cooperation between local authorities and civil society in the enlarged Europe. It encompasses more than 160 members in 31 countries.

ALDA is recognized at the European level as one of the main stakeholders encouraging citizen participation, also through volunteering, strengthening cooperation between local, national and international partners and promoting joint cooperation between local authorities and civil society organizations.

ALDA has been promoting volunteering through several different actions, developing and employing innovative methodologies and tools: it has been tackling "volunteering" from the specific perspective of "civil participation", aiming at enhancing citizen involvement in the decision making process and in the life of their communities.

ALDA is also active in the framework of the EVS promoting transnational volunteering and youth mobility mainly from and to South Eastern Europe countries.
